The 21st century is seeing a widespread revival, and renewal, of the Orthodox Christian tradition of icon-painting, many people feeling drawn to this sacred visual language which crosses denominational boundaries. On a broader scale, connections can also be made with the iconographies of different religious traditions, such as the image of the Buddha. The endeavour to depict the 'holy face' is a spiritual discipline in its own right, and a perennial way in to meditation and prayer. This exhibition features the work of five artists mostly based in Edinburgh : Basia Mindewicz, Monika Walendziak, Marta Kamila Pawelek, Andrew Paterson and Rafal Urbaniak.
